Neil Schmitt
Neil formally started Blue Eagle Construction in 2022, however, his beginning in the construction world goes way back. In 2006 Neil and Rhea bought their first house - a fixer upper. At that time Neil was a fresh college graduate with a degree in Business Managment and he was working his way up with the Hertz Corporation. After work and on the weekends, Neil would work hard on all the renovations the house needed. He found himself really enjoying all the hands-on work and the opportunity to be creative with the finishing touches. He even built custom pieces of furniture to furnish the house.
In 2014 Neil and Rhea sold their house to go on to build their own home in the country. They built the entire house themselves and with a little help from friends and family for the heavy lifting. They found it very satisfying to put in all the hard work and see their dream come true! It further developed Neil’s love of working with his hands and creating something beautiful!
In 2017 Neil made the decision to leave Hertz. He decided to pursue a new career in construction full time. He joined B-Dirt Constuction in February 2017 as a basic carpenter. They recognized his great skill and attention to detail paired with his great leadership and organizational skills and he climbed his way to higher and higher rolls with them over the years. At the time of his leaving the company he was a full-time project manager for them.
During his time at B-Dirt Neil would occasionally take on small part time jobs for clients. He enjoyed doing his own projects working directly with a client from start to finish. He enjoys getting to know new people, listening to their ideas, and bring their ideas to completion. He realized he dreamed to be able to eventually do this full time in the future!
In 2022 Neil officially filed Blue Eagle Construction as an LLC with the State of Minnesota. He went on to get business insurance and perused getting his contractor’s license. In July 2024 Neil took the lengthy exam and passed on his first try! He was then granted his Building Contractor License through the State of Minnesota.
In September of 2024 Neil made the decision to leave B-Dirt to focus on Blue Eagle construction full time. Neil loved his time at B-Dirt, the skills he learned and the people he worked with and for. However, he was excited to now work on his own projects for his own clients. Focusing on his own company also provides a great opportunity for his kids to pursue their own paths in the construction world. So far two of Neil’s kids have really taken an active interest in construction and really enjoy working with and learning from Neil.
Due to Neil’s degree in Business Managment and start in the business world before construction he has learned extra skills and talents that stand him apart from the average construction worker. Neil has exceptional organizational and communication skills. He is prompt with responding to emails and phone calls. He alsways has everything he needs for a project lined up and ready to go. He is very punctual and values clients’ time - he never keeps people waiting for him. He is very clean and likes to keep a clean workspace. You won’t find tools, scrap materials or garbage laying around Neil’s job sites. Neil is a very patient person and has an eye for detail. He has a great knack for making project perfect in the end! Most importantly he genuinely enjoys talking to people and building a good rapport with them. He likes to listen to their thoughts and ideas and make them happen. Neil has always been a people person. His laid-back, easy-going nature makes him very easy to talk to and get along with.
